Hubbub was launched in Vienna, Austria in 2012 as a sound-based alternative to traditional social networking. The app was designed to sound similar to a radio station tailored to each individual user. The idea, which was relatively new to the world of social networking, immediately drew some attention. Chief Executive Offer Yurij Riphyak founded the company and drew backing by angel investor Hares Youssef. The app was officially launched at The Next Web conference in Vienna.

The clear difference between Hubbub and other social networking apps is that Hubbub is based on sound. The app is supposed to sounds like a radio station tailored to the individual user. The sound bites are updates and other information from friends and others the user chooses to follow.

The web is simple to use. It allows users to upload and share sound bites in a three-click process. The user chooses to 'follow' certain other users in a Twitter-like style. The messages of the followed users are then combined into a single radio stream. Part of the ease of use stems from the fact that the user can carry out social networking while jogging, driving, or performing other activities that involve your hands.

Registration can be done through your Twitter or Facebook account. It is also possible to register through your standard e-mail account. To do so, the app will ask you to fill in your name, e-mail address, user name, real name and other information. Registration is free of charge and takes effect immediately.
